i remember seeing cloyster in RU i think in previous gens and thinking "theres no way this should be this low"

The dex cut makes OU less prepared for it.
For comparison, it's pretty much nonviable in National dex OU.

Even Cinccinno is good, Skill Link has always been a really good ability but the previous metas never fell weak to it. Now moves like Bullet Seed and Icicle Spear actually have niche uses just because the strongest mons in the meta are weak to them and they're even decently good at dealing with Dynamaxes.

If Toucannon makes it in the DLC it will see use too.

Hell I'm considered a noob and know it's only viable strat is smashing and then letting loose 5 hits from the cold pits of hell.
The only other sets I know were explosion and spiker. Like who even runs Cloyster as a spiker anymore?

Master Ball rank is the highet tier but there are places inside of it, running from the 80000 to the 1. Right now I'm sitting at the 10000s, I know it's not much to brag about.

On battle spot on the other hand it's been a top threat since XY.

gen 8 ou has bad ice resists for the most part and king's rock lets you cheese past things like toxapex. past gens had ice-resistant steels and less set-up fodder (dugtrio) among other things, so while cloyster's arguably usable in every gen you were never going to be able to pull off shell smash sweeps as often as you can this gen
