>>42744739I caught most the references in XY because they tend to involve gen 1 Pokemon themselves (Charizard getting two megas, Mewtwo getting two megas, Mewtwo being around, legendary birds being around, Snorlax being around, gift Lapras, almost only gen 1 Pokemon getting regional variants, probably more stuff I don't remember). The only location-based reference I noticed was the forest, which is the worst out of them all. I actually didn't notice any of the location-based references in SM until I saw someone point them out. Gen 1 Pokemon in general are overused so the more popular ones stick out. Location-based references aside, SM is actually worse than XY in that regard because they DIRECTLY MENTION KANTO OVER AND OVER. That doesn't even need to be remembered, it's literally a bunch of Hawaiians genwunning for no reason.
