The good:
>There are various great characters
>Poke Pelago was a nice addition for berries and rare items farming, as well as a nice addition for quick EV training
>SOS and Battle Royale were pretty fun modes
>Battle Tree and Title Defense having random trainers makes it more interesting and unexpected
>Experience gain is nice and more balanced than in gen 6
>UBs were an interesting concept as well as Ultra Space having an inmense potential for future games
>Totem battles felt more like boss battles than Gym Leaders, yet they kept Grand Trials which are essentially Gym Leaders with Z-Moves
The bad:
>Most cutscenes are horrible fade to black, default animation, rotate in place and walk/run which take you away from the story and make it pretty tedious
>Rotomdex was a waste of bottom screen
>Handholding is extremely annoying
>Lack of exploration also shows: you feel like a tourist on a linear path for the first two and a half islands, and fourth island is pretty uninteresting in terms of cities, although it is the best for exploration
>Trainer clothes version exclusive colors
>Ashnime references
Could improve:
>Poke Ride was an amazing way to replace TMs, although they could've gone more creative and add more availiable Pokemon or the option to ride your own; also the clown suit and music are horrible
>Story is great but it heavily relies on Lillie instead of the player; making you feel like a babysitter
>Regional forms are an excellent concept, but the fact every Alola form was pandering to Kanto was a big disappointing
>Festival Plaza could have been pretty neat if it had followed BW2's style and let the PSS intact instead of mixing both
>Rotom Camera was fun, but it becomes extremely repetitive and tedious to get the stamp
>Z Moves were interesting, but the long cutscenes for each of them is horrible and some were pretty broken
>Ultra could have been a $10 DLC
They do improve on XY main problems, but they also mess up on things that XY made great.
