Those balls are coded into the game and have their own animations and everything, so there's no good reason why Gamefreak would lock them out of online.
I think it might just be an oversight in SwSh that they'll patch. Gamefreak is retarded, but they're not THAT retarded.

UPDATE
This doesn't just affect SwSh.
Pokemon HOME will trigger the same message if the Safari Ball/Sport Ball mon has the SwSh tag.
This includes both transfer mons and mons bred in Galar.
It only works if the Pokemon has the Bank tag, which gets overwritten if it's put into SwSh.
Someone else test this so I know it's not just a problem on my end.

My Safari ball Tyranitar could not be traded in HOME on GTS or in a room (but it did have Pursuit), it was from Bank (I do not have SS).
My Sports ball Butterfree could also not be traded on GTS.

Okay, that's kind of weird.
I just checked with a Safari Ball Smeargle, and it was able to be put back in GTS just fine.
Same with a Luvdisc with Lucky Chant, so it's not the cut move affecting it either.
Can more people come into the thread and test this? This is an actual problem, and we need as much info as possible.

Since the expanssion pass is finally giving us apricorns, how many years until Game Freak finally concedes before our balltism and gives us a prof that swap the balls of our mons? Just make it so the old ball is lost and you have to donate the new ball (so if you want something weird like your starter in a Master Ball you can, but you will lose your Master Ball, and if you don't want that shiny you Master Ball'd in that one you can still change, but the Master Ball will still be lost)
