To be fair they sabotaged their own movie by casting literally whos and niggers for Detective Pikachu. Meanwhile Sonic took the time to work on their movie to improve Sonic’s ugly visuals to make it more palatable.

Yes, the Sonic movie doing well is good for video game movies in general. Detective Pikachu really wasn't that good; it did well in building the Pokémon world but that's pretty much it. I haven't seen the Sonic movie, but the general consensus seems to be that its a stronger film than Detective Pikachu

The Sonic movie has a high audience score because the nightmare-fuel CGI designs would've made it a complete flop.

The fact that they redesigned it due to backlash deserves some praise. Critics are probably not taking expectations into account as much.

I legit think the Sonic design controversy is why the movie is doing well. The design got people talking about the movie and allowed far more people to take notice of the movie than any ad campaign could have
