Hey /vp/ boomer fan here. I made a thread a few days ago and I have another question.

Diamond and Pearl, XY, Sun and Moon or Sword and shield and why?

Trying to decide what to play.
Haven't played a poke game in 10+ years.
Only really have the time/desire to play one.
What should it be?
What had the most/best content?
Also what version had the best minigames/extras(like poke contests and secret bases)?

The best games are BW2, and I would definitely play Platinum over Diamond and Pearl. However, I'd go ahead and just play SwSh. It has the most Quality of Life features, and someone that hasn't played the series in over a decade will probably enjoy it

Diamond and Pearl are slow messes of games. Platinum speeds everything up, removes the shit parts, and adds a lot of cool stuff like the Battle Frontier

Thing is, I never really cared about the pokes.
I liked poke games, because you are always fighting new enemies, and you can capture and use the enemies you discover and like.

Fun game idea, and the extras like contests add a whole new layer.

Doing research and planning everything would ruin what I find fun about the games.

Depends really I guess 7 hours depending on how quick you play. I found it short but I didn't mess around in the wild area too much until I beat the game

The autists saying its 5-7 hours are exaggerating like hell because the game wasn't well received by the Pokémon community. Really its like 15-20 hours if you play through it normally

That's still kind of low, but maybe my sense of time has changed. It felt like it took my childhood self weeks to beat the first game, and even longer for the other games.

Did they get shorter as the games went on or am I just miss remembering?

SwSh is the shortest Pokémon game (look at the site How Long to Beat if you don't believe me) but not significantly so. It absolutely is not 5-7 hours though

Diamond and Pearl are alright, but personally I got frustrated with how slow they are. Not one of my favorites but not much worse than previous installments.

XY are the worst in the series. Piss easy gameplay and completely unmemorable story and region. Also 3d chibi is really ugly.

Sun/Moon are the best of the newer games. Just overall a lot of fun. The originals have a slightly better story, but the remakes are a couple minor features like the photo club, ultraspace wormhole minigame, and a couple ease of life UI improvements.

Sword and Shield are fine. The big issue is that they feel really underwhelming for something that's on the switch with a higher price tag. Routes are pretty basic, the story is about as barebones as you can get, and the extra lore/npc dialogue is really shallow but it's still fun enough.

Sun/Moon would be my personal recommendation. But if you did grab Sword/Shield and end up really liking it you could look forward to the coming DLC.

Diamond and Pearl were not optimized for the DS which made everything run incredibly slow. Platinum fixed that
