>>42794120The ONLY way to get Meltan in Go is through that quest. Then you get a SINGLE Meltan, and cannot catch any more without LGPE. To evolve it you need to walk it for candies.
To get Meltan using LGPE, you just send a Pokemon from Go into LGPE. That unlocks the "Mystery Box" in Go, and when you open it, it'll spawn Meltan around you. The box can only be used every couple days.
On top of that, the ONLY way to evolve Meltan is by using candies in Go. It cannot evolve in any other days.
