Why did this gen have so many awful, hideous Pokemon designs?
Make no mistake, I am somebody who always would advocate for mons that people typically hated. Rotom forms, Klefki, even Vanilluxe are all pokemon I thought were designed well, by MY GOD did gen 8 drop a lot of shitters. It would literally be easier for me to list all the designs that ARENT fucking atrocious.
Let's see we have (naming one mon also includes its entire evolutionary line)

Grimmsnarl
Corviknight
The grass and fire starters
Coalossal
Toxtricity
Centiskorch
Hatterene
Obstagoon
Falinks

And that's fucking it. Everything else is bland and generic at best (Wooloo line), a decent concept that is poorly executed at median(Duraludon), or fucking hideous atrocities at worst (the fuckawful apple dragons and chimera fossils)

What the fuck happened? Even in generations I didnt like overall at least the MAJORITY of pokemon they introduced at least had good designs, and James Turner worked on some of those games too so it wasnt him.
