Switching in is extremely essential to an offensive Pokemon’s success.
If it doesn’t survive long enough to even do damage, then it’s pretty much useless.
And with just making some neutral match-up into a resisted one, it can greatly keep Darm health enough to switch in more times.
That 1/2 damage goes a long way, even on something with just decent bulk.
