The game looks like it plays like Super, including the stronger enemies and faster belly depletion.
Which means, yes, it will be harder. At least, if you consider Super harder than Red/Blue.

I noticed from playing the demo that each Pokemon has their own belly now though, and it only depletes when you're controlling them. So if the one you're currently controlling gets low, you can just switch to another one.
