What the hell does that mean? I suppose it's necessary for them to make new pokemon, but so many evolutions of previous ones were just laziness.
Most of the designs are ugly or don't add much. Rhyhorn is the most pokemon pokemon; great design. Rhyperior just makes it fatter. It didn't need to be improved upon, and wasn't. Almost the exact same idea as Magmortar, Electibire, Tangrowth, Lickilicki, and the middle part of Magnezone. I'd like to say Togekiss is an improvement because Togetic is so awkward and turkey-like, but I can't get over its lack of legs. I did a playthrough at some point where I refused to evolve Murkrow because I love its design, and Honchkrow just makes it fatter and uglier. I think Weavile, Dusknoir, and Mamoswine are just ok, but not improvements on their previous forms. Porygon-z is good because it fits with the concept of technological improvements.
A lot of them are far too over-designed; trying to cram as much shit into one pokemon as possible. And they prove that if you keep in mind where you're going when you design a pokemon (plan out its evolutionary stages), you can maintain the concept, and save the final design elements for the final evolution. When you go back and tack stuff on to what was intended to be a final evolution, it looks ridiculous.
You can like the games, but you have to admit, gen 4's dex and "new" pokemon were the absolute worst.
