There should be a single gen every new console/handheld. Have the new gen games earlier on and then release a remake a year or two later. They could even throw in a sequel sometime during the console's lifespan. Whatever it takes so they have ample development time. Also, get another, experienced studio to aid them with programming, they clearly need it.
Get rid of Ohmori. The guy is terrible at game design, allowing regions filled with corridors, no dungeons, and then throwing in NPCs to railroad you through an already linear region. Even when Masuda made Unova a linear region to quell complaints Sinnoh got, there was still a lot of side areas and content to explore. Throwing in the Wild Area doesn't automatically salvage a region. By this point in time, the entire region should be a 'wild area'.
At this point this probably wouldn't be enough to unfuck the series but it would be a start.
