PMD games are definitely harder, even if they might be easier than other roguelikes. It's very easy to get screwed if you don't know what you're doing or don't have a good setup.

In Rescue Team you had to remake your party after every dungeon, so that's actually a good change, because you don't have to wander around extremely small maps nudging into ledges to track down the party members you want anymore. It is snappy and the feeling of the areas both visually and auditory are preserved.

Play Blue Rescue Team. If you like it, play the other games (except Adventure Squad a maybe Gates to Infinity) and eventually Rescue Team DX when you want to experience it again. Don't spend 60 on it unless you have already played all the other worthwhile games and immediately want more.

Yes they are.

But they added to the game. It gave a realistic hub to where your friend pokemon would live while play the game and you can walk around and interact. The friend system change to selecting a team from pages is a lot faster than loading and navigating friend areas, but it comes at the cost of losing RPG mechanics that worked in the game where you could interact with you squad members. Imagine if the friend areas acted like camp sites? That would be amazing.

Reducing friend areas to menus is akin to reducing the warp maps from Crash Bandicoot to menus.

Recruiting is luck based. Your chances are increased with a rare held item and maybe a move. You can enter a dungeon with 3 Pokémon and there is no guarantee that you'll manage to recruit 5 more as soon as you're inside. I was playing Gates to Infinity the other day. It's the easiest game in the series and my Pokémon was overleveled. I could barely recruit one or two Pokémon per dungeon. I doubt it will be possible to easily recruit 5 Pokémon at the start of every dungeon in RTDX, and I also doubt that Pokémon will be strong as soon as you recruit them. If anything, I expect those to be closer to escorts rather than powerful team mates.

It sucks that they didn't find a way to implement the 3D areas while also keeping the convenience of a proper menu, but if the remake allows you to recruit as many Pokemon as you without the absurd limits (no confirmation so far) of the original then it is far superior.

I like the remake too, I'm disappointed about no new content but DLC would also be disappointing, especially considering the price of the base game. I don't think they're doing DLC though, these look like Gates to Infinity leftovers. That game had both DLC and AR stuff.

I'm excited because it'll get more people into Mystery Dungeon, but the changes are really making me grit my teeth. Permanent X-ray specs, starting with busted moves, removing basic attacks/PP management, 8-member parties.
Part of the magic of a first playthrough is getting curbstomped by RNG. Seems like all of these changes make it impossible to lose.

Boss battles and even monster houses would be trivialized by seven fucking meat-shields, it's not even anything resembling a gank at that point.

I am concerned about that too, the original game was the only PMD where the inventory was significantly limited. In the other games they let you have way too many items all at once. I guess they added chests to make up for it, but you don't find them that often in Explorers and you can always throw them away (they don't even see that worthy when you don't know what's inside them)

I don't see how random recruits make the game easier though.

Most of the more challenging dungeons are main story ones. IIRC even some of the 99F ones are marked as "GO" in the original. XRS are broken because they remove the suspense of entering a new room, and more or less spoil monster houses because you'll quickly learn not to run into a room you know is filled with items.
I feel like removing the basic attack means they'll have to shower you with elixirs. Part of the challenge of long dungeons was knowing when to conserve your PP and tank a few hits. There's no way you'd last longer than maybe 30 floors using exclusively moves unless you have access to elixirs.
More recruits is more of a personal preference thing, I feel like a giant party just takes some of the danger out of bosses and monster houses, and I actually liked the JRPG autism grind of having to do dungeons over and over to get everyone

I think that if you're going to experience it for the first time, the upgraded OST is going to make the game a lot better as an experience. There's also unique items in DX that you won't find in the original games along with a few QoL changes, like being able to check your accepted missions while you're in a dungeon. Personally, I would recommend putting the money down for this game if you enjoyed playing.

Mostly through visuals and music, which are still there. Seeing some Pokemon waddle around tiny environments isn't that different than seeing their sprites animate over art of the area, except now it is faster and more convenient.

I didn't know I'd have to "prove" all of the game's scripts are in the demo, when people have been saying this time and time again, and you can see it when extracting the ROM, under romfs/Data/StreamingAssets/native_data/script/event/main and script/event/sub. I went through the files under sub/ and saw literally no new subquests. While there might be minor new events in the town, a datamine posted in the last /pmdg/ also confirms there's no new dungeons.
It's pretty safe to say at this point that there won't be new story content.

It's a possibility but highly unlikely, since they'd have scrubbed more if that were the case. They scrubbed assets and music of the dungeons not in the demo, but no other data, like scripts, names and what pokemon appear.

It literally isn't. You don't need to manage your PP in the original, you always have an overpowered attack that you can use without any limitations. They made that attack significantly weaker in the next game, entirely useless in the following games and now figured out that it should have never existed in the first place.

How I would have done it is this:

Nah, keep friend areas exactly as they were but add even more ways to interact with them.

Every time you enter a dungeon there is a /change team’ option with the new screens with the friend area in the backgroud but your partners are in a grid.

It streamlines selecting a team for the dungeon and it gives the old fun walking around and seeing your pokemon

We have seen, played and datamined the demo and now had further confirmation that this is just a weak cashgrab directed at NPCs who will buy everything once Pokémon is on the cover. The game won't get more difficult the longer you play and certainly not more difficult than the original entry. Just play the latter, if you want the PMD experience.

Im curious how the game will play out with no Default attack
With no friend area needed to be bought and already notice the huge amount of money you get in demo possibly to compensate for all those max elixirs you might need.
But i don't think no friend areas makes game easier unless you hoard revive seeds but easily do that in original too
