The problem with aping calarts isn't that it's unappealing: it has plenty of appeal. It's questionable for the same reason that retarded jrpg hatsune miku artstyle is when mangaka use it. It isn't adaptable enough to emphasize the qualities of whatever work it's plaguing.
I feel cartoonists shouldn't take so much from other peoples cartoons, but instead emphasize trying to draw people and simplifying where they think it's appropriate until they arrive at a cartoon. Since they take too many hints from each other, it's pretty rare to come across animation as nuanced as Tartakovsky's or Antonucci's (well, not really, but it seems the genericos are disproportionately praised)
