Unless your going for the full pokedex, RS aren't worth playing when Emerald is a complete upgrade. FRLG are pretty fun and the Sevii islands were a nice addition.

Awful games that, because of a fanatical following that DID grow up with them, continue to derail expectations of current gen. The amount of shit Hoenn “fans” talk about any other gen is appalling because they don’t offer any actual solutions. Sputtering “battle frontier” and “nat dex” just sort of anchors what dead weight 3rd genners are. Even if the modern games brought over every shitty thing introduced in 3rd gen it still wouldn’t make this clique happy. ORAS being a 1:1 copy of their shitty games shut them up for a while quick.

I like the setting in Gen 7 and Necrozma is actually challenging for once.
Gen 8 is so easy and boring that I did not even finish it. the wild area is great, but lost it's charm quick for me.

As far as RSE if you've play ORAS then you should just skip RS and play Emerald which is a different experience.

Speaking a zoomer born late 2001 who's played all gens, they're fucking good shit, Would recommend them all, even ruby and sapphire are good. If you're interested in older games I'd also recommend crystal, hgss are better all in all, but the Crystal is actually astoundingly good given it's barely running on better hardware than gen 1, like it's really fucking impressive.
