Gamefreak is really weird in general when it comes to Gen 2. In SwSh Gen 2 has the least representation, but HGSS was the remake they obviously spent the most time and care on. They replaced Kris for Lyra for no discernable reason yet stayed true to the horrible gym leader teams. Gen 2 starters get no love outside of a hidden ability, and they rarely reference johto outside of apricot balls
