Because they were earning so much more money than Digimon as a franchise, they didn't need to grow with the audience. They could afford to keep targeting the same age range while Digimon HAD to change or they'd have continued getting slapped silly by Pokémon in the same demographic.

Digimon is now desperately trying to cash in on Adventure nostalgia.

It's also because >>42813325, because Pokemon already has the kid demographic locked down, Digimon pretty much had to in order to maintain a niche.

tri was an interesting idea ruined by fucking awful writing. a few slight tweaks and it would've worked. the most mature anime is still tamers and it's hugely popular to this day; easily the second most loved after adventure

Difference is that it's infesting every aspect of Digimon while it only applies to Pokemon's main games. The other stuff is mostly free of it, with what little there is leaking in from the games.

I.E. Despite all the Kanto pandering in Sun/Moon, the anime completely ignored Kanto, except for when they needed to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary and advertise LGPE

And Pokemon is now desperately trying to cash in on Kanto nostalgia because they can't make a good game with new pokemon that can attract people so the franchise became a zombie relying on nostalgiafags and pikachu/charizardfags to keep bringing money.
