Absol is everything I love about design. It puts across so much personality with simple and effective artwork that can be interpreted in a variety of ways.
To demonstrate what I’m talking about, how about an example? Eevee, it’s clearly a cute pokemon, its big eyes and little nose, its fluffy tail and collar, and its small body and rounded features all work to create the cute aesthetic. But what if you wanted to draw tough, edgy version of eevee? You would struggle quite a bit because all its features only really work with the cute look. There’s no other way to interpret its design, you cannot change it without loosing things that make eevee work in the first place.
Contrast this with Absol. There are some artworks that play up its fluffy mane, rounded features, and big, expressive eyes to make it look cute. There are some artists that take more inspiration from its dark typing and lore, and play up features like its sharp horn and tail, claws, and bizarre lanky proportions to give it a scary/edgy look. Some play off its symbolism, angelic wings, and white fur and give it a beautiful, divine appearance. Some take multiple elements of both divinity and mystery to portray it as an intimidating bringer of disaster. There are countless angles to approach it from making it stand out among many iconic, yet simplistic designs.
I could talk for hours about what I appreciate about this pokemon but I’ll leave it at that.
My favorite food is a hard question though... maybe you nice people can help me out. does human waste count as food?
