I read here and on reddit that for most people ORAS sucks.

I mean, why? Sure, FRLG and HGSS were far better remakes but this game gave us primals, new megas and delta episode.

Is is that bad?

it's not based on emerald so it's strictly inferior to a GBA game (the battle frontier project has started!)
even compared to ruby and sapphire it's piss easy with terrible boss design, absurd overpowered bullshit handed to the player constantly and tons of hand-holding for ADHD three year olds
the map is almost copy-pasted and the few changes are bizarre and often nonsensical. why is this city a mall? why is half a dungeon just gone?

There's honestly no logic as to why ORAS sold so well. Having purchased AS myself and played Ruby when it came out, they are very good and faithful remakes (probably too faithful in the lack of a Frontier), had PSS, and one of the best features in DexNav. But Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald did not sell nearly as well as Red/Blue and Gold/Silver did.

I feel like TPC has a soft spot for Hoenn and pulled out a bunch of stops for a strong remake but they were already pozzed at this point since from X/Y onwards they knew that most retards that buy Pokemon literally don't even finish the campaign so why bother with postgame content.

Except there is. There was 3 separate groups of children born between Gen III and Gen VI who never played RSE and weren't going back to GBA JUST to play them. There's a reason they always pitch at kids, every 5 years nearly, they have a brand new set of children to sell their games to, regardless of how old the veteran playerbase gets.

These are the main points for me. I don't think the game is bad, but I was hoping for an upgrade of Emerald, not a downgrade. The game still has some cool things, like the enhanced plot, which was the weak point of the original game.

ORAS had a huge marketing campaign compared to HGSS, plain and simple. First the teaser trailer with boxarts, then the Primal CGIs and all the new Megas Trailer, not to mention the Mega Rayquaza+Deoxys trailer at launch, it really thrilled people.

But in retrospect it sucks that they spoiled 100% of the game.

And they did it with Sun and Moon too anyway.

I replayed it recently and enjoyed it greatly; having an actual overworld to explore and conquer made it feel much more like a real Pokemon game than the most entries to the series. But then again, that's almost entirely the result of what the original games were like and not something new ORAS added, so I guess as remakes they weren't all that great

Just set up Harvest + Skill Swap + Leppa Berry + Trick to make the first pokemon immortal to struggle and bam you can keep it up for hours and watch youtube until you find a shiny. It was the first all-new mechanic in a long time and I think they intended for it to become a series staple and really push the trainer-Pokemon bond aspect of the series
It was working well until they dropped it for no reason

DP's main problem is how slow the games are and one of the few good things in Gen 8 is the battles are fast and snappy which is already a huge upgrade to Diamond/Pearl

At best, It will be SouldDiamond/HeartPearl but let's not expect that to the current GF.

I have to say ORAS are the best 3DS pokemon games. At least if you're like me and don't care too much about postgame stuff other than working on completing the dex, which these games make a much less painful task compared to most other pokemon games. I also think overall Hoenn was overall a more enjoyable region to spend time in compared to Kalos or Alola. They are the last games that feel somewhat non liner. I would take the delta episode any day over the mess of a forced story in S/M. For anyone complaining it's too easy, that's just every pokemon game ever. You're not exactly going to find a challenging one unless you play a romhack. I think some spoiled people just want everything in a pokemon game and that isn't ever going to exist.

B2 unlocked a Difficulty mode after beating it which was kinda pointless unless you reset your save/passed it on to another copy or to White2. It just inflated the levels a bit but I don't think it added any Pokemon to trainers.

I like Steven as a champion, what I don't like is that Juan completely disappears.
I would have appreciated an optional battle, like the battle with Steven in Emerald next to the Meteor Falls.

I played Emerald before I played Ruby or Sapphire because By the time my parents got me a GBA it was the one that was most recent.

Not only did I find my first playthrough of Sapphire to be boring compared to Emerald but I found Steven’s character to be more likable as an ex-champ. I remember him happier or at least more free to be a trainer again.

I’ve on my third try at playing through Alpha Sapphire. Not because it’s hard but because I just keep putting it down and playing different games instead, then finding myself too disconnected from the Pokemon I had and the story to finish.

I don’t hate them, they’re my favorite gen 6 game but it is disappointing and a huge step backwards from what HGSS were as remakes. I did enjoy revisiting hoen in 3D, having secret bases back was fun, delta episode was whatever but I did enjoy battling and catching deoxys. I just wish they would have at the very least given us gymleader rematches with stronger teams. Honestly, all of the 3DS gen has just been a giant disappointment.
