I’ve beaten the game already, it’s not very long. Took me 40 hours or so. There’s literally nothing to do after the you beat the game and the brief post game story. Pokemon Emerald has more shit to do than these games and Emerald is a 16 year old Gameboy game.

It was purely brand recognition. A while back someone mentioned that if Town, which was an absolute flop, had been called “Pokemon: Little Town Hero” it’d have sold those 16m as well because that’s all that matters to the majority of people.

Considering how the Battle Tower is also present in RS, I don’t think that needs to be acknowledged. Contests and berry farming provide sufficient replay value. Hell, even catching all the pokemon is more entertaining with the inclusion of the Safari Zone.

Having been a fan of JRPGs for over 20 years, Pokemon used to be one of the best the genre had to offer. This last decade it didn't even finish in top 10 after starting off strong with B/W/B2/W2.

Pokemon has had an even bigger fall from grace than Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout.

I know this is thrown around a lot but my friend completed the dex, got some shinies, got two competitive team and got bored of the game in less than two week (~80hours of effective Gameplay) while being slow and playong badly for the majority of the game, I cannot comprehend how can someone drain more than 100hours into the game without completing unless you tell me bag puzzle meme is true.

It really is. Both in the "fanfic meta" and VGC. And it's about to get a whole lot worse with the returning Pokemon. If the idea of removing Pokemon was to better balance the game, they failed by bringing back some of the biggest sources of powercreep in the series.

The only hope for comp at this point is that the Tapus get B& to Ubers, or at least Lele and Koko.

It's the main game formula since at least RS if not the very beginning. Mildly entertaining enough to get you into them and keep you hopeful they'll eventually get better, but still boring enough that you'll never be satisfied and just keep consuming.
