Like, not Kingdom Hearts fucked, but the fact that the hear is a part of any life form's metaphysical biology in the Pokemon universe is certainly an element. The question is what does the heart do? Apparently it's about connection, given the way to cure shadow Pokemon is by treating them well and getting them to "open their heart", and connection or "linking" is a big part of the franchise, it would also explain power of friendship bullshit and the more recent battle gimmicks as "link" + "outside power source" = "new battle gimmick".
