The fact they have no idea how Magikarp meat could actually be like despite how common it is kinda implies that eating pokemon isn't the norm and they only consider it because they're starving.

Btw if we go by anime logics, then real life animals exist (thus making it useless to kill Pokemon for meat)

And dex entries are LITERALLY full of retarded inconsistent bullshit (Indian elephants, Magcargo hotter than the sun, Alakazam's 5000 IQ....etc).
Until the game or the anime (aka trustable media, unlike the early manga that depicted Clefairy with a phimosis penis) actually depicts a Pokemon being killed and eaten by another Pokemon or a human, then it ain't canonically confirmed.
