Yeah, I lost a couple times since I didn't know his team and was very unprepared. He was just a bit above my level too. His charizard having a counter to water types also fucked with me.

He's pretty much my fav champ at this point. Decent difficulty, interesting and varied team with decent coverage and a really excellent theme. Hated the game overall, but I really like Leon.

I only lost the first time after getting rng screwed.
There's definitely a level jump with him though, and his team is a lot better put together than a chunk of the other champions in the series. I'd say its a decent battle.

His Charizard's becoming iconic for it's usage of thunder punch now. Which is a nice twist on the usual "it spams it's only type over and over" moves. It looks like he does so well because people expect to come in with a water type and he just smashes them with electric moves.

His characters probably the best. He's not like Lance who gets a 10 year old to fight an international mafia. He tells you to stay out of it and carry on getting stronger. Then when you do beat him he pends the rest of his time getting everyone else stronger with the battle tower. He's not just sitting on his ass doing nothing, he's actively protecting Galar and making sure if another crisis happens in the future there's an entire team of people capable of helping not just him and 2 kids. it's a nice change of pace.

Leon, Allister and Raihan all actualy managed to beat me, which surprised me since the last time I died in a Pokemon game was fucking Platinum a lifetime ago. People kept saying the game was easy so I avoided grinding, but then even though I was above his level Allister's Gengar was faster than me and kept boosting it's power with Max Ooze. Raihan just straight up got lucky that my team had awful doubles synergy, and Leon like you was a "what the fuck he is 8 levels above me" moment.

Me too. Leon starter and the sixth Pokemon he gets depending on your starter (Mr.Rime/Rhyperior/Seismitoad) are very easy and practically gifts, but despite having only 4 decent Pokemon, these 4 Pokemon are really good. Aegislash, Haxorus and Dragapult are able to wreck you completely, and while Charizard is easier to deal with, if you allow it to Airstream you once it can destroy you

The only Gym Leader I really struggled with was Kabu, since I had nothing good to counter Fire-types with at that point and he did a lot of damage to me before I could adequately regroup.

I lost to him the first time too. He had about a 5 level advantage on my team and I hadn't looked up his team members beforehand. I might have been able to win 1st try by item spamming, but that's not really a satisfying way to win

I will say that I have never understood why people keep using items in the games. Enemy trainers don't use them, at beast they have a Full Restore they might waste a very predictable turn using which you can actualy use to your advatange. I've pretty much ignored using items in the game since G4 and IMO it improved my enjoyment.

I also try to never use Pokemon Centers, I only use them if something knocks me out back to one.

Leon was the only trainer in the game who I had to rethink my team comp to actually beat, since I was switching out Pokemon so frequently trying not to overlevel that I was about 10 levels under. I didn't win every match in the whole game first try, but doing things a little differently with the same team did the trick each time until him.
Gave me some appreciation for Diggersby, the MVP of that match.

Most people don't use let alone spam items. Gym leaders regularly use potions and can use up to 5 in some cases.

my Tyranitar bodied him. and when my little cousin had trouble with him with his underleveled garbage team i was able use trs and some items do beat him. in the battle tower he was doing double team shenanigans and thankfully the rng didnt cheat for him.

I dont think I even know what whiting out in this game looks like. I never would grind or use exp candies either. The game was patronizingly easy from start to finish. The only time I even came close to losing was when Marnie's Morpeko flinched me like 5 times in a row, and even then I was only at risk because I refused to use healing items in battle.

First of all being underleveled is almost literally fucking impossible in SWSH. You have to TRY and make your pokemon underleveled

Second of all, the AI in this game not only uses terrible sets but is absolutely retarded and should be no problem for a thinking adult to play around even with a full team of shitmons
