They wasted too much time on Incineroar and Torracat going at in the beginning instead of waiting until the end, just to bullshit a powerup for Torracat that proved inconsequential in the end. Then the rest was your run of the mill trainer battle that didn’t live up to the hype of a 6v6 Champion-tier matchup, with Rowlet’s performance being the biggest offender and the writers pulling that “It’s Substitute but we’ll call it Feather Dance” bullshit they did during the Hau battle.
And then the whole League had a problem of too much commentary from the peanut gallery, most of which was generic reactions that added nothing to the weight or dynamics of the battle. It’s crazy because the first half of Ash VS Kukui suffered from this but the second half it was near non existent. Even the animation and tone was handled completely different, as if we were watching two separate battles
