Turner is actually a decent Pokémon designer, most of his pre-Gen 8 designs are rather good. It's just that he has no filter as an art director so he lets shit like Stonjourner or Eiscue fly.

To be fair I think this is less Turner's problem and more Game Freak/TCPi not really wanting design inspirations to be as obvious. Maybe to avoid another Uri Geller suit or embarrassing stuff like certain Gen I beta mons being transparent kaiju ripoffs?

The only big stinker on his roster is the Vanillish line, the rest are meh at worst. He's just not fit for the position of art director, they probably only chose him for this Gen since he's British and hopefuly they get someone else once he's had his 15 minutes of fame.

I'm not super well-versed on kaiju so I never knew that, but I feel like that type of thing is exactly why Turner would get told to shut up on Twitter about design processes. I'm still genuinely surprised that Obstagoon got the green light.

but it sure must have been an interesting story going from designing an official recoloring of Lugia (and how he was picked in order to do that in the first place from his company) for gen 3 to ??? in gen 4 and then gen 5 wow now you get to design Pokemon to wow now you are are director as a white guy. Something tells me English isn't the only language he knows and that he has a college education

Why do devs have to be secretive about their development processes? Literally every person making something follows one if not all of the same steps it takes to create it and Pokemon isn't special because of that.
What Turner describes is a typical thought process that anyone, especially artists who make fakemon, can do

Doc Lava is pretty based.

One thing thats funny though is that I remember one time he did a huge heartfelt apology video where he claimed he was stealing content by looking at a wiki or something. Everybody in the comments of his video was confused about why he was apologizing for doing nothing wrong.
