I don't really like gen 2 but there was a cool rom hack where you start with a Tyrantrum and you had mons all the way up to gen 6.It think it was called Prism or something.

Pure Silver is really good, I second the recommendation of Pyrite and Perfect Crystal, Polished Crystal and Crystal Clear are ok for some intents, otherwise started well and became gay along the way.
