>>42860282What? Gen 3 took a huge leap by adding an actual story to a pokemon game. Whether the story was good or not is up to everyone's own interpretation, but it was still a massive leap. Also it added doubles, which is the current VGC format.
Gen 4 copypasta'd the story sure, but it expanded upon the postgame element as well as exploration. Also added the phys/spec split.
Gen 5 was a risk at the time and strayed away from the standard pokemon formula a little. Whether you liked it or not is irrelevant, the fact of the matter was there were risks involved. Also it was the first generation to receive an in-gen sequel.
Gen 6 was when they started going "let's add one core battle mechanic and call it a day".
