This is my only issue. The gym theme is actually very good but the loop we all got used to starts to get really discordant in the actual full song, and then the cheering kicks in and changes the whole vibe.

After giving up on these games with SM, music became the only thing I looked forward to with these games. Sadly that is no longer the case with Gen 8.

Leitmotif works if you have any sort of attachment to anything in the game. Given that Pokemon's focus is the Pokemon, but it wants to have a story conveyed by talking mannequins doing stupid things in an idyllic world instead of actual people. If it was more self aware and could pull through on its absurdity, it could work, but it's so bland there's nothing for the leitmotif to latch onto.

The music has been a letdown since SM. Even the champion battle for SM was a fucking leitmotif of the title music.

At least SM had variety despite shilling the Alola theme, Iki Town theme and trial theme at first, with themes better than XY. SWSH doubled down on that aspect

The gym theme transitioning is fine in concept but was implemented poorly. Having it change up every two seconds because I’m in a menu, pokemon are coming out or dynamaxing interrupted the music rather than enhanced it.
Main theme motif in trainer battles is beating a dead horse. It was fine in BW against the gym leaders, but it already was dead horse-tier by SM’s champion defense theme

I probably heard it but don't remember it, I was drunk for roughly 80% of my playthrough because of how displeased I was with the story. I dont even remember WHY Rose even summoned Eternatus and the entire 3rd-5th gym portion is just nonexistent in my brain.

I'm REALLY glad I wasn't the only one who found the music in this particular game below par for Pokemon, and probably tied for XY as my least favorite. Only a few tracks stood out, and the trainer theme is the worst one of them all. I mean, listen to this crap:

I didn't mind this stuff. The awoos are genuinely silly but they fit with the atmosphere of the Slumbering Weald. And the cheering makes complete sense in the context of the game, it constantly reminds you when you're in a fight that there's a crowd watching you.
