>>42862337I dunno; I feel like having the “correct” fossils cheapens the gimmick and lore for the Bone Wars quartet.
I worry about not being able to catch ‘em all if we don’t get another DLC for the last few hundred mons, but something about having these guys around as-is, with no “true form” feels right. It’s like...real life has already lost too many creatures to extinction which we’ll never be able to recreate or observe in their natural environment, and real fossils only give us so much of a clue into prehistory. Having some fossil abominations to reflect that in games otherwise known for being able to magically poof up a whole dinosaur from scratch helps to keep that sense of curiosity about and loss over the past we never knew, and will never get to know, alive.
Kinda like how Bob Ross says, you gotta have some bad days to appreciate the good—you gotta have a few holes in the lore where a pokemon should be to help you appreciate the ones you’ve got, and how real-life works out that way FAR more often than we manage to save a species or log a complete evolutionary lineage.
