You guys know that the shiny rare encounter works for npcs right? That probably what you're seeing there. But I do think it would be cool if an important npc would have a shiny.

The rental pass team Pokémon in Battle Revolution can be shiny. The Prinplup on mine was shiny.

It's actually how the system works every pokemon has the shiny rate so npcs will randomly have it. It also includes pokemon you encounter but dont battle like with the sandygast in ultra sun kn the beach was randomly shiny for one of my play throughs. I've also battled a gym leader where they had a shiny I wanna say it was volkners' raichu.

Shinies are supposed to be extra-rare, but I would love to see a rival or Gym leader canonically have a shiny they keep through the game, and possibly be very proud of it.

How many trainer Pokemon do you encounter in all games combined? Given there's 2 in game and the full shiny odds are about 1/8000, it makes sense really, I don't think you battle 16k pokemon so why would you see more?

I don't know about the Espeon these guys are talking about, but in the Battle Tower in Emerald I fought an NPC that used a shiny Smeargle. I don't know if anyone else has seen this thing so I'm not sure if it's the same case but it wouldn't be crazy if battle tower NPCs could have randomly generated shinies.

From personal experience, this also happens with the Battle Castle in Platinum. I'm pretty sure the game can randomly generate a shiny in Battle facilities in Gen III and IV, beyond just the scripted ones like the Espeon and the Seaking.

That's actually not even the only time an NPC can randomly catch a shiny in game, pic related happened to an anon on /vp/ a long time ago
But just like with Wally, it sadly doesn't stick around for the rest of the game
