There is not much reason to use it over Blaziken and Infernape unless you want something that can work in Trick Room(unfortunately Trick Room has so many hard hitting nukes that Emboar is rarely considered)

getting both coil and calm mind is genuinely a great gimmick, feels like one of the few starters that can function physically or specially

Emboar's situation sucks. He's a perfectly good design that gets a shit ton of undeserved flak solely because of type overlap.
Pignite is garbage though. I don't know why they kept it from evolving in the anime.

it brings more stuff to the table than infernape, which was literally just a better blaziken before GF pitied it enough to give it speed boost

the reason to use emboar is that it wallbreaks instead of sweeping and hits harder than both right off the bat without having to set up. reckless wild charge off of a higher attack stat hits way harder than friggin thunderpunch. sucker punch is also nice for dealing with faster ghost/psychic types. burn up + scald are also nice memes

Not really for no real reason, but for reasons that have nothing to do with the actual designs.
Emboar is hated because it's the 3rd fire fighting in a row.
Samurott is nice as a stand-alone but looks nothing like Dewott (which had a lot of potential).
Serperior gets the least hate because it has nothing else than the fact that people got infinite butthurt after Wottergate.
