I know a lot of people didn't like the affection mechanics in Amie but at least they gave an NPC that would act as a cumdump so you didn't have to constantly jerk off your male pokemon to avoid them becoming disobedient. I think it was great for immersion having to deal with pokemon going into heat, but they put libido stat on the fennekin line too high.
Shauna was fine, wish she had a little more character and things to do in the story since you end up going to her so often, but she wasn't grating.

Whenever your Rival is just the genderswap of the PC there tends to be one other character who fills the role of rival, who has a competent team and similar goals to you instead of just competetive with you. RSE/ORAS had Wally, XY had Shauna. B/W has N and B2/W2 has Hugh btw.

So yeah, if I were to make Blue/Rival a character in Smash Bros who'd have the Trainer's Pokemon on their own I'd totally have Shauna's brown hair/pink shirt/blue jeans/pink shoes combo as an alt color for Blue/Rival.
