>>42902592Game Freak is desperately in need of quality writers. Even from the perspective of a kid's media franchise, the stories are way too stale, repetitive, and safe for how frequently content is produced for it. The actual average age of their consumers are also more widely out of line then ever before, approaching levels nearing another infamous kid's property. It won't happen this year or next year, but inevitably Game Freak will make changes to the story to more properly appeal to millennial fans while still remaining a family brand. The issue is TPC's approach to business is to throw everything against the wall and watch what sticks, but it'll be a dozen balls of the exact same thing. The most ambitious move they made over two decades was the Detective Pikachu movie, a decision that was relatively well received. Within the games, possibly the bravest move they made was restricting the player to only new mons in BW or ditching HMs/Gyms in Gen 7. They need to not only address their actual aging core fanbase, but actually take more new chances with the property, but put way more thought into those changes too. For example, I actually did like Gen 7's story but it's the most verbose shit ever. It reads like the first draft of a story that would've been decent had all the fat been properly trimmed via edits and more exciting story beats occurring as a result.
