Any hardcore Kamen Rider fan reading this thread? Both Accelgor and Hovernyan are homages to Kamen Rider and both have that weird cross-like scar in the forehead, but I can't find if it's a reference to some Rider in particular.

The scarf and the belt are classic Kamen Rider elements.

I've always though Accelgor was one of those Pokemon where it's hard to picture it moving organically without just floating. Pokemon like that seem a lot less compelling, because it's hard to imagine it actually functioning as a living creature.

Every series is meant to be standalone and there is A LOT of variety in tone, origins, magic or science, etc. You may want to look for one that fits your personal interests. Here's a guide from /m/'s Kamen Rider general:

Opinions will vary on wich series are good or bad, but the two that definetly shouldn't be a starting point are "Decade" and "Zi-O" because they are anniversary celebrations with guest appearences from past riders.
I started with Build and loved it.

W is one of the best and it maintains the spirit of kamen rider
fourze, gaim, build are also good but they're more like live action anime that happen to feature kamen riders
older ones like kuuga, ryuki, kabuto are also pretty good but it's a pain in the ass finding good subs

If you want to know where to watch it online, install adblock or ublock and go to jatoku(dot)xyz, they have good subs for pretty much all of them and things run surprisingly well. If you don't mind downloading them and watching them with a media player, go to TV-Nihon's website and they have all of them in batches except for Kuuga.

oh and you'll need to download uTorrent to download stuff from TV-Nihon so don't forget if that's the route you want to go down.
also W, OOO, Fourze, Drive, and Build are really good places to start, don't start with Gaim since it deconstructs some more common Kamen Rider stuff, so you'll get more out of it after watching 2 or 3 others.
