When the fuck did Gengar get so popular? I don't remember it ever being shilled then overnight it became a top 5 Kantoo mon.
It was an awkward trade evo too, I can't imagine it being widley used by kids
as well as being literally the worst designed ghost pokemon in the entire series

Though I wouldn't take Gen 8's rankings seriously since the gen is still new and most of the Pokemon haven't been seen in action yet.

Gengar is basically THE go-to Ghost type. Whenever they want to center on an episode on a Ghost-type or Ghost-types, unless it's a new Ghost-type, you can bet your ass Gengar is going to be one of them.

Yeah, Zoroark has always been somewhat popular, but Lucario-level popular like TPC was expecting it to be? It failed at that, so they dropped it and went back to Lucario.

It was still good competitively when it was first introduced. Fast speed, powerful hitter on both side. The problem was it's frailness and because your opponent can see if you have one or not making it them able to predict a fake out. Then fairy types came.

it was shilled back in the day so people probably remembered it and just chose it so they could vote for each region.
I mean it only got 43K when the 2nd place for every other region was either in the 50K or 60K range.

love is a little strong, it only barely made top 20.
They love greninja, chandelure is one of the few eye catching designs in unova too and the fact it was an unexpected character in a fighting game probably gave it some bonus points too.
