That's what makes wild examples perfect for filling up the Gen 1 Glitch Dex. Since Gen 2 it has been sought out by breedies.

Imposter Ditto is plenty effective in battle.

I've used this Ditto on my main team for three gens and he's awesome and fun. Sweeping people with their own Mega was great, and now baiting a set up sweeper only to revenge kill it and sweep with a dynamax of their Pokemon is amazing. He's even more fun now that you can shrug off the Choice Scarf effect temporarily if you want with Dynamax.

The series showed Ditto doesn't need to change into the opposing Pokemon.

The game however, it must change into the opposing Pokemon.

Ditto is a hard Pokemon to master, that's why it's rare to see Dittos used in battles.
