I got into Pokemon during my late teens and the first game I played was Silver. Didn’t even know there was a Kanto postgame, I beat Lance, caught Lugia and that was it, and I still loved the game so goddamn much.

This, if you removed the postgame from BW2 that game would be completely shit, but that was also designed with more of a postgame focus, it's the same deal as the Gen 2 games.

No, it’s more like if you strip kanto from silver/gold/crystal it is the shortest game and smallest available amount of Pokémon in any game to date since a good deal of Pokémon (and even some johto mon) weren’t available on the johto side

It’s not, getting to return to Kanto and fight the previous protagonist is the reason anyone remembers Gen 2 these days.

It was a fantastic addition, but I really liked Johto itself. The ruins were fun to explore, I liked the radio station, the Lake of Rage was a cool plot point, and you had charming places like Ekruteak, Cianwood and Olivine.

If they fixed the level curve and threw in some post-game bosses, the games would still be enjoyable without Kanto.

Someone should create a game hack with only Gen 2 Pokemon available prior to Elite Four (and evolutions for baby Pokemon). Gym Leaders and Elite Four will get some kanto pokemon but their Teams should mostly consist of gen 2 Pokemon). Rival, though, should get a fully gen 2 Team (cross-gen evolutions allowed).

I don't think there is. Problem is mostly that many gen 2 pokemon are bad in mid/late game battles meaning that bst and movepool buffs would be needed.

I mean, Kanto is Pokémon’s first region in their first game. To say it’s terrible in its own rite isn’t accurate. It’s the beginning and the developers have evolved the series with each installment. When R/B/Y was released, it was the hottest thing to talk about on the school playground. They won’t change the OG story-wise or fan service it by adding more Pokémon.
