I never really played Explorers of Sky. Did Red Rescue Team on an Emulator, watched Gates lets play on youtube, and played Super on 3ds.

I've watched a lets play of Sky but only till the credits. How long is the post game (no spoilers would be nice), how good is the post game? Im actually planning to buy used Sky instead of DX. Also best starter options? I was thinking about Shinx but not sure about partner. How good is Shinx anyway?

You're in luck bud, Explorers of Sky is the best Pokemon game there is period.
Now listen carefully:
It doesn't matter which pokemon you pick since the game is easy as long as you make sure to bring different types of move in your moveset!

But if you reaaly want to powergame: Pikachu and Treecko are ridiculously overpowered, both have access to agility, Pikachu to discharge and Treecko to bullet seed. One of them will carry an entire run easily, putting both on one team will obliterate everything in sight. They both have very strong early game options too with quick attack. It doesn't matter which one you play as and which one is your partner

But heed my advice: Go with whatever pokemon you like best, you do not need to grind or powergame in the slightest to beat this game, just make sure your moveset is varied and prepare your bag with Apples and Max Elixirs and reviver seeds if you're a casual.

P.S. remember to play the special episodes either when they become available or after the credits, they add a lot to the story.

Do you consider Dialga the end of the main story? I mean there is a credits roll at that point iirc. Then it probably has more postgame then several gens of the mainline Pokemon games together. If you take Darkrai as the endpoint for some reason, there's still a decent amount of shit to do afterwards.
