I legitimately don't understand. He's far from the best starter, and granted his middle stage completely drops the ball, but he and Chespin and pretty solid. Definitely better than any of the gen 8 starters and mistakes like Incineroar. Kalos isn't even particularly tough competition either, I'm seriously shocked at his unpopularity.
