Not really, except for a shittier story climax. Rainbow Rocket is neat I guess, and Ultra Necrozma is based, but if you already played Sun and Moon, there's literally no point in playing USUM, a lot of people who played SM and USUM get burned out.

Some Totems are different, there’s an actual 7th Trial, more postgame, UR squad pop up every now and again for some somewhat challenging battles, even better distribution of new and old Pokémon, some story bits and locations are changed, a couple new mini games, and an all around better climax to the “villain” plot than SM even though some motivations make no sense due to the story changes

If you played SM before, it doesn’t offer much until the postgame besides being an all around more challenging game.

Better pokemon variety, but otherwise about the same. Some blue people will show up, and the story will be sort of different toward the end. Some totems will be different, and some trainers have better movesets and teams. There's some more side stuff to do scattered around, but it's mostly small side quests. Basically the standard "enhanced" version stuff.

There's a couple qol changes like heavy ball working properly and sos chains not resetting after 255, but other than that not many significant changes

Kino journey with better pokemon pool and side quests. End game content is fun with plenty to do. Top tier choice of game to play - especially if you haven't played SM in a while

Honestly, any story differences are basically inferior to the regular SM version. The Recon Squad and Ultra Space are neat concepts but underutilized. This really should have just been post-game DLC.

Ironically though, even though I think USUM is inferior to regular SM, my two favorite Gen 8 Pokemon, Lycanroc Dusk and Naganadel, are USUM exclusive.

There has always been a seventh trial, so I'm guessing you're thinking of the eighth trial

Otherwise, Nebby is still a little shit that just won't stay in the bag, ya boi becomes a good guy, Lillie stays in Alola and is a potential Battle Tree Multi partner, Pokémon of the Year 2020 can be found through Island Scan, and so on and so forth

There is a BIG difference, it cuts almost all the character developement for the important characters (lillie, gladion, hau, lusamine, guzma). I'm not even joking, almost 85% of that shit was cut and it's impossible to care for the main cast unless you've played sun and moon before.
