iirc red++ has really stupid encounters for whats supposed to be a kanto remake. I think that was my main gripe with it. I don't remember it might have been something worse.

Either way Red++ is pretty based. Doing a hard mode run right now and it's pretty brutal at times.

fpbp. It's poorly implemented here. You can't tell if a move if going to to be physical or special until after you learn the move. Not to mention stupid shit like EV's are also part of the game as well.

Personally Pokemon Throwback is my favorite Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen romhack. It aims to be the definitive version of the game without going out of its way to alter the world or mechanics. Here are some changes:

>Reasonable Pokémon placement throughout the game - taking cues from all iterations of the first generation games, including Yellow and Japanese Blue - ensures that all Pokémon from the first two generations are obtainable through official-ish means (including canon evolution methods).

>All text has been decapitalized in a manner consistent with the most recent games.

>TMs and move tutors are infinitely reusable.

>Various bug fixes for the original game.

>Just about every kind of Berry is obtainable with repeatable methods, including Berries with EV-reducing/friendship-raising properties.

>Trees stay gone once you cut them, you can run indoors, several more items are now obtainable within the game, many “tutorial” moments from the game have been removed, and much, much more!

(Also, ignore the most recent review. The most up to date version of the hack removes no content, least of all the island where you catch Mew.)

it was still an issue in gen 2 or 3 when this game is a gen1 romhack
>EV's are also part of the game as well

If you're talking about the ideal definitive pokemon experience

>be born in time for peak pokemania
>wealthy background with no anxiety or pressure from outside world
>close knit group of friends with similar class standing
>at least one reliable japanese friend for legit event pokemon
>playing through each game on release with friends, maxing out pokedex and discovering mechanics like IVs best natures, shinies, masuda method, etc through experimentation rather than looking it up
>nobody gets jaded or disinterested with pokemon, each new gen is just another exciting new adventure
>discover romhacking among yourselves and play each other's romhacks for fun in between waiting for new pokemon games
