You know what's funny? Nothing. Wild area's such a shitty laggy place it's not even funny that there are more wild area "zones" (that in fact are just places to walk/bike on with grass) than actual routes (places to walk/bike on with grass). I remember when routes weren't just a link between 2 points, I remember routes used to be longer, harder, and the map was so well thought that you could reach cities from different points, allowing the adventure not to be a fucking straight line

They literally felt like they were made in unity by amateurs. The draw distance sucks, weather changes when you move 2 feet, pokemon appear constantly in front of you and don't interact with the environment, and it all just looks like shit.

THIS is exactly my main issue with the Wild Area. They should have really had more interesting locales scattered throughout, but all you get basically amounts to a bunch of lakes and rocks. Literally the only two important places you can interact with are Runerigus's arch and the second Daycare Center. I especially hate how that really cool-looking tower in the top left of the South Wild Area is literally pointless aside from an item or two found around it.

Yeah this. The wild area would have benefitted from caves, hidden groves, small settlements, climbing, diving, etc.
Side note: that tower is where dynamax crystal raids occur like the jangmo-o and larvitar from the double pack codes, corviknight from the japanese distribution, and any others they choose to add. Pretty lame, but it does have a use.
