how do you do a nuzlocke in gen 8? the second most important rule is only catching the first pokemon you encounter in an area and both the wild area AND overworld pokemon ruin that

Maybe he skipped the Pokémon that appears on the overworld? You can find them in the grass too.
As for the overworld, it is divided in different areas.

Nuzlocke rules at their most basic are:

The Wild Area is segmented into a bunch of groups. If you have it so you avoid every overworld encounter, and just grab what's in the grass, you can technically catch one Pokemon per area in the Wild Area. The problem is if you do this too early you may end up with a bunch of low level shitmons since the Wild Area scales up with your badges.
