>>42950214I hate Dynamax and I think it's a bad mechanic, and I'm glad Smogon banned it, but I still disagree with their reasons for doing so.
What I value about Pokemon is the massive range of possibilities. Dynamax is simply too good and any strategy not based around it is blatantly inferior. Entire mons live or die on their ability to abuse Dynamax.
But what Smogon values isn't possibility and an interesting meta. What they value is wanting the best player to win every battle, which is why they ban shit like Moody or evasion which turn the entire match into RNG.
But Dynamax isn't RNG. It, in fact, eliminates some RNG elements. Dynamax as a mechanic rewards understanding of the meta being able to make good predictions and is extremely punishing towards misplays. A bad switch can be recovered from, but a bad use of Dynamax will almost always cost you the game.
They banned it for being "uncompetitive", when it's actually a very competitive mechanic.
