I really did like the visual design behind Alola and especially Galar, but they were really brought down by the lackluster world design. Kalos was just a huge disappointment all around.

This. Alola and galar have some absolutely gorgeous places (malie city, malie garden, seafolk village, brooklet hill, konikoni city, mahalo trail, kala'e bay, hammerlocke, circhester, ballonlea, glimwood tangle) but are held back by the abysmal level design. Most of it is just scenery while the actual area is essentially a hallway.

It was the start of the downfall of pokemon with shit, linear map layouts and more then normal awful pokemon designs.
B&W 2 saved it, but it was a sign of what was to come.

As someone who's tired of tropics and shit, I consider Kalos more visually appealing and gorgeous than Alola. Level design wise they're both disappointments.

I disliked BW1 because it felt too much like a straight loop around the map. BW2 I liked it much more when the story moved you about from place to place more erratically. Felt more like an adventure than a guided tour that way.

Overall it was okay, but the city never really excited me and some areas like the desert just didn't feel worked into the region well. Felt more like an assembly of set piece ideas cobbled together than a natural region, more so than usual.
