A top tier pokemon without its OP hidden ability

How come starters are not only viable but powerful these days and why was that not the case in the past?

Things changed around Gen 5/6, when they gave Speed Boost to Blaziken and Protean to Greninja. They realised that they could help push their chosen starter into a popular, shilled status by making them viable and thus exposing them more.

Mega Swampert was OU and a rain staple, and Swampert with no mega was only went as low as UU. Also Incineroar in fucking general

Greninja and Kecleon get it because frogs and chameleons actually change color.
If they wanted to give it to another mon, why not give it to an octopus or a cuttlefish?

Isn't it the reason why they changed the name into 'Libero' for Cinderace, so that it make more sense? Libero is an actual role in football.

Do libero footballers change their appearance as they change positions?
It would make more sense if the ability did something like change Cinderace's stats.
And be more unique instead of just a reskin.

I phrased it badly, but liberos change what they do, while chameleons and frogs change their bodies.
Like Greninja uses a ground move and becomes immune to electricity because its body is changing to that of a ground type.
But Cinderace uses a ground move, nothing about its body changes, and now it's immune to electricity because it changed its playing style.
