I'm making a new region right now and this time it's based off the southwestern United States.

The starter trio's theme will be the spaghetti western film tropes (Indian, Bandit, and Cowboy/Sheriff)

Horses are so integral to the Wild West that I feel that it shouldn’t be stuck as a starter choice, it should be a really good early route pokemon like corviknight.
The bison is kind of in the same boat, but I think you can get away with it because they eventually got so rare.
Maybe consider a bird of prey like a golden eagle or Harris hawk over the horse.
Also you definitely need a rattlesnake, vulture, and saguaro pokemon.
