the word "meltdown" is used for a theory about what would happen if a nuclear plant goes out of control: it would literally melt down into the ground. it would "burn" a hole beneath it and keep going down and down, liquefying and vaporizing whatever was beneath it.
we know from gen 8 that dex entries are literally not true, and that comic where they were written by dumb kids since oak asked you to complete the dex, was actually true.
