I'm not saying it was perfect in every way. In fact, it shat the bed in lots of areas, but the reason why that doesn't harm the game for me is because of the Big Picture philosophy i talked about: The aspects that have always been shit about Pokemon are for the most part even shittier in X/Y, but it makes up for it in the areas it exels at, as stated in tmy previous posts.
When i play Pokemon, i KNOW that i'm gonna get a shit story and sub-par characters. I understand that i'm not playing SMT, Chrono Trigger or even Final Fantasy. I know the linear 8 Gym Badges, then go beat Elite 4 will kill or neuter any attempt at good character building or story. It's an inevitability of the setting. That's why the shit plot and shit friends didn't bother me, because I knew what i was walking into. And yes, it's as bad as most people say. Maybe even worse. It was also easier than ever because of those very friends, but that also didn't bother me because i've never had my team wiped out in any pokemon games main story. I enjoyed the Post-Game about as much as i did B/W's which is good enough for me. The region wasn't as appealing either, but the 3D made it more unique and bearable. It also wasn't as linear as my previous gen was, so i enjoyed it. I'm not sure why people complain about the OST because while it had some blunders, i instantly enjoyed it more than B/W's. It's right behind GSC's and DPPT's.
I overall think it's a 7.5/10 game, really
(I might talk about my opinions on the past 2 gens if the thread is still alive tomorrow afternoon, i gotta sleep and go to work. Hint: It's not positive)
