Is Gen 8 a backwards step from Gen 7?
This was honestly my first impression from playing Gen 8. I havent even played Gen 7 yet, been away from vidya for a while.
All that seems to have changed is muh HD

SwSh could have been salvaged if all the routes were Wild Areas.

yeah gen 7 is better
the biggest difference is that gen 7 has tons of secret areas with extra Z-crystals to grab
gen 8 is a straight line outside of the wild area, and even that is pretty simplistic compared to older games' open areas

New mons are cool, max raid battles, and being able to see the stats are nice. The world seems like a barren wasteland compared to SM. Not enough to explore, lazy modeling, and again paying for dlc when it feels like you've already paid for an unpolished, unfinished game.

hell yes
>alola is a better region than galar having more optional areas and more content overall
>EXP share is optional
>every pokemon
>every move
>battle tower/tree streaks
>has multi battles in post game tower clone unlike swsh
>has more facilities (tree, royale dome, and agency. swsh only has the tower and arguably raids)
>has totem pokemon, making the game more challenging
the only thing gen 8 has over 7 are nature mints, pokemon getting egg moves by breeding with another pokemon, and ow encounters

QoL. Gen 8 is great for casuals because it respects the player's time, and people here tend to forget that the vast majority of players don't give a flying fuck about anything beyond beating the story and maybe filling the regional dex. I don't agree with anyone who thinks 8 is better but I understand why they do.
